Under the direction of the Senior Program Director and Executive Director, in cooperation with the Membership and Program Services Committee, and consistent with the Mission of the YMCA, the Swim Team Head Coach will be primarily responsible for coaching and managing the competitive aquatic team and related operations within the Chambersburg Y in accordance with the goals, purposes and policies of this Association.

Position Summary – The Chambersburg YMCA is seeking qualified fitness professionals to provide members, as well as guests with a positive and enjoyable workout experience, on a part-time basis.  The Fitness Center Staff position will display outstanding customer service, be friendly, helpful and attentive to those working out in the fitness center areas.

Under the direction of the Fitness Center Director, the Fitness Center Staff’s responsibilities include develop member relationships, conduct fitness orientations, maintain the cleanliness of the fitness area and the equipment, and assist in preventative maintenance of equipment.  The incumbent accepts, demonstrates and teaches the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.

POSITION SUMMARY – The Chambersburg YMCA is seeking qualified fitness professionals to teach high quality fitness classes for youth on a part-time basis.
The Youth Fitness Instructor is the primary leader of a youth fitness class under the general guidance of the Director of Healthy Living and instructs all fitness classes within the guidelines of the YMCA to maintain the quality of programs.

Required Skills:

*Understand the basic components of a safe and effective fitness class and have a comprehensive understanding of current health and fitness standards and principles pertaining to youth
*Take pride in professionalism by reporting on-time with a positive attitude and a passion to motivate youth in health and wellness programs.
*Enthusiastic about fitness and wellness and enjoys creating and delivering new, fresh, and innovative classes.
*Provides, promotes and maintains safe classes and programs for all participants.
*Responsible for set-up and take-down of all equipment
*Provides support with planning of classes.
*Practical demo with Director of Healthy Living
*Current nationally accredited fitness certification (e.g. AFAA, ACE, ACSM, NASM, NETA) is a plus
*Current CPR/AED certification is a plus
*Must have good speaking ability and display an outgoing personality, enabling him/her to relate well to participants

The position calls for someone who is engaging, upbeat, cheerful and loves fitness. Spin, CPR, and AED Certifications preferred but not required. Experience in teaching spin or group classes desired for position.

EFFECT ON END RESULTS

The swimming pool will be always kept clean and safe.

An individual, systematic, documented, progressive swimming instructional program will be held for Pre-School, Youth, Young Adult, Adult and Special Needs Population groups. These students will systematically achieve higher aquatic skills through the implementation of YMCA Aquatics instruction.

All swim instruction classes, and recreation swim periods will be properly staffed with currently certified individuals.

Basic Assignments: Under the direction of the Chambersburg Memorial YMCA’s Fitness & Wellness Director, and consistent with the Y’s mission, policies and guidelines of the Y; the Healthy Living Coordinator (HLC) is responsible to create a culture of health and wellness to a major YMCA community client. The HLC is accountable for delivering exceptional and outstanding programs and services to employees of this client. The HLC is a highly visible representative of the Y’s mission, themes, and character development values. He/she is responsible for knowing and properly executing all Y policies and procedures. The HLC is responsible for increasing awareness and engagement in company-wide health management programs. The HLC will work with insurance carrier of client to offer Wellness related programs. He/she is directly responsible for the growth, development, and implementation of all wellness programs, health and fitness membership recruitment and retention. The HLC is critical in innovating and developing new approaches to community health to change individual behaviors and drive risk reduction. The HLC will be involved with Wellness Groups within the community. The HLC will oversee the day-to-day operations of the onsite client Wellness Center and report any issues or concerns to the YMCA’s Fitness & Wellness Director.

Qualifications: Must be 21 years of age or older. Bachelor’s degree preferred in a health related field. Two years experience in health-related program planning, delivery and instruction. Must be able to: perform quality work within given deadlines and meeting expectations with or without direct supervision; interact professionally with Y’s employees, the Y client’s employees, and other individuals within the community; serve effectively as a team contributor on all assignments; work independently while understanding the necessity for communicating and coordinating work efforts in collaboration and partnership with other appropriate individuals within the community.
