Elementary Student Assistance Program (SAP) Liaison/Education Coordination



Liaison/Educator should have knowledge of:

·       local child-serving systems including child and adolescent mental health

·       procedures for accessing local resources for students and families

·       school culture and ESAP-related school policies and procedures for teams to which they are assigned

·       screening, crisis intervention, suicide prevention and intervention

·       program coordination/planning

·       marketing and promotion

·       basic drug and alcohol prevention education

·       child and adolescent development

·       classroom management techniques


Liaison/Educator should have skills in:

·       working with parents, students and school personnel

·       serving as advocates for parents/caregivers and students in the school and community child-serving systems

·       accessing local resources

·       consulting with school and community child-serving professionals

·       developing marketing materials

·       communication with potential partners and agencies

·       recruitment of families

·       scheduling program locations and dates/times

·       working with and engaging students

·       accessing local resources

·       following curriculum


Responsibilities may include:

·       attending ESAP core team meetings and other at assigned schools

·       consulting with teams for interventions and assisting parents in accessing the appropriate services

·       brief screenings of children referred to SAP

·       communication and assistance to parents to connect families to necessary resources

·       providing in-service and program updates and team maintenance

·       facilitating and supporting school-based aftercare plans

·       facilitating and assisting with postvention efforts

·       facilitating  or co-facilitating student education and support groups in schools (K-12)

·       providing follow-up with parents and students

·       assisting schools in promotion of ESAP program to faculty, staff, students, parents, and community members

·       drug/alcohol prevention education in schools and community organizations

·       working with schools to schedule education

·       interacting with a variety of ages (K-12) and families

·       teaching an evidence-based curriculum (Too Good For Drugs) in classrooms throughout Franklin County

·       facilitating Strengthening Families Program (10-14) with families and their children ages 10-14

·       assisting in data collection and analysis

·       assisting in program reports

·       provide other programs for HCP as needed



Additional Requirements: Valid driver’s license and ability to travel. Travel is required to meetings, conferences, or other activities as needed to complete duties and work related to the coalition. Travel will be reimbursed at the federal mileage rate.


Qualifications and Skills: Bachelor’s Degree in public health, social work, or related field such as health education, community organization. Experience working with youth (especially at-risk youth). Ability to work independently; strong public relations skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and proficiency with Microsoft Office and general computer skills.
