Healthy Communities Partnership has an opening for an elementary Check & Connect Mentor / Violence Prevention Educator.  This position will be 35-38 hours per week during the school year (mid-August through mid-June).  Check & Connect Mentors build relationships with their assigned students, have a long-term commitment to these students, and work with persistence to support students through working with the kids, their caregivers, and schools.  Educators provide classroom lessons on conflict resolution, communication skills, diversity education and more.  Interested applicants should submit resume to Christy Unger at or by mail to 232 Lincoln Way East, Suite B, Chambersburg, PA 17201.  Expected pay rate will be $18-$20/hr.

Minimum qualifications:

·         Bachelors degree

·         experience in human services or education field

·         experience working with youth in upper elementary, middle, or high school ages

·         experience in a school setting preferred


Knowledge of:

·         educational systems and school settings

·         child and adolescent mental health

·         family dynamics

·         motivational techniques

·         classroom management techniques


Skills in:

·         working with and engaging students

·         assisting students with goal-setting and decision-making skills

·         accessing local resources

·         communicating with teachers and school staff

·         working with and engaging parents

·         prevention education in schools and community organizations


Additional responsibilities include:

·         making a two-year commitment with assigned students

·         interacting with a variety of ages (4th-5th grades)

·         using the Check & Connect model to engage students and work on goal-setting while approving attendance and school engagement, as well as academic performance and behavior

·         providing classroom education to fidelity using an evidence-based curriculum

·         assisting in data collection and analysis

·         provide other programs for HCP as needed
